Many people pit the Silhouette Cameo against the Cricut machines and the latest Cameo – Cameo 3, was hoped to be top of the list. But was it? Did it outshine the rest of the vinyl cutting machines? I hope you enjoy this Silhouette Cameo 3 review and find it helpful in answering this question! If you want to see my thoughts on others in the Silhouette range just click here (coming soon).
Ok, I’m going to start by saying that the Cameo 3 is not the most user friendly machine out there (in my opinion) if you’re just starting out with electronic vinyl cutting machines, however if you’re a fan of the brand and are familiar with how it works already you’ll likely love the upgraded features that it contains. You may also be someone who finds working out new systems a cinch and if that’s you you’ll like this!
It’s a wireless cutting machine that uses bluetooth capability to connect with your computer which of course means that you are free to have it wherever you like in your craft room or home. If you have a home with limited space for your computer and cutting machine this is a really great feature.
The Silhouette Cameo 3 also has a really robust software that makes designing and making your own cuts an enjoyable process – definitely a lot you can do with it too.

Can cut over 100 different materials
One of the main benefits of the Silhouette Cameo 3 is its ability to cut a wide range of different materials. From balsa wood to vinyl to paper and cardstock, whatever you choose, you’ll be able to get down to cutting your designs with it with ease. If you’re someone who likes to do all sorts of different crafts then this would definitely suit you or alternatively if you’re a one craft kinda person, perhaps it will expand your ideas within that craft? Card making is just going to be awesome with all these different materials that can be cut!
Matless cutting capability
The Silhouette Cameo 3 capabilities are unique in that it can cut some paperbacked materials without using a mat. This is great especially if for example you want to create a long vinyl cut – it can cut up to 10 feet in length. This perfect for signs, banners or large crafts you’re working on.
If you’re considering making these as part of a new business or just have lots of ideas of making big banners then this one feature sends it higher than others.

What others have to say
As well as giving my own thoughts I really like to look round the internet to get a different view of what people have said about this machine and to give a more rounded view. No point in keeping a narrow viewpoint!
The Silhouette Cameo 3 reviews are mixed it has to be said with many positive and quite a few on the negative side. There are lots and lots of positive points made out there but it must be said that it does have some quite scathing points said about it too. Overall I’d say there are still way more positive things said about it than not – the software capability and the fact that it works well out of the box are the major selling points.
The negatives of the Silhouette vinyl cutter seem to be focused on the ease of use – some people feel that it’s not the most user friendly and I’d agree with that to a point. One way to get past this and what I recommend if you decide to go for it is to look for tutorials online to help you get the most of it – there are loads out there and I found them really helpful. Another point made is that the cutting doesn’t always work well – again, this is mixed with some people having no issues at all so it could be a isolated problem or just user issues.
